The Masonic season over until October all eyes were fixed on the UGLE Universities Scheme Conference, this biennial event was this year held at Berkshire Masonic Centre, Sindlesham, Wokingham. Attending the event and representing University Lodge of Chester were the Secretary, Paul Rogerson, University Scheme Liaison Officer Prof Andrew Thomas, Lodge Membership Officer Sonny Smith and his deputy Norman Jinks.
On the Friday evening we were all invited to attend a meeting of the Berkshire Lodge on Enlightenment No.9946, where the lodge performed a triple passing (nothing new there for ULoC members!). It was followed by a presentation by the lodge of "Second Degree? Ultimate Degree!" A very interesting synopsis on the second degree in masonry over the years. The meeting concluded in the Flavell Suite with the Festive Board, the main course of Chef's Classic steak & kidney pudding - definitely a "belly buster" - but none the less very enjoyable!
The following day all the delegates assembled in the Flavell suite to be welcomed by the Scheme Chairman James Hilditch. The day was split into 4 sessions (see conference agenda), the four delegates from ULoC managing to attend all the sessions by careful planning, dividing each session by two.
The only downside to the day was that Paul managed to contract Covid and spent the next three weeks convalescing !
