Rod Hunt Celebrates 60 Years of Dedicated Service to Freemasonry

A remarkable milestone was celebrated recently as Rod Hunt marked an extraordinary 60 years of service to Freemasonry. The occasion was filled with warmth, respect, and heartfelt tributes from those present, reflecting on a life dedicated not only to the Craft but also to education and storytelling.

Rod’s deep-rooted connection to Chester was evident throughout the evening. His journey with the city began decades ago when he attended the teacher training college there, laying the foundations for what would become a lifelong commitment to learning and the nurturing of young minds. After a number of years as a teacher, Rod shifted his focus to writing children's books—an endeavour that would bring him nationwide recognition and leave a lasting legacy in the field of children’s education.

His contributions have not gone unnoticed. Rod was awarded an MBE for his services to children's education, and in a further recognition of his achievements, he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Chester—a fitting tribute from the city where his educational journey began.

In recognition of his long and distinguished service to Freemasonry, the leadership of the Province were delighted to present Rod with a commemorative certificate and promote him to the rank of Past Provincial Senior Grand Warden. It was a moment of great pride and appreciation, marking not just a milestone but a legacy of unwavering commitment.

Adding a personal touch to the evening, Mitch Long, the Master of the University Lodge of Chester (ULoC), presented Rod with an engraved whisky glass—a token of respect, friendship, and gratitude for his many contributions.

It was an evening to remember, honouring a man whose life has been one of dedication, inspiration, and quiet but powerful impact across generations.
