Every so often, a moment arrives in Freemasonry that feels truly unique—something that stands apart, not just for its ritual significance, but for the pride, harmony, and excellence shared by everyone involved. The recent Installation at University Lodge of Chester (ULoC) was exactly that sort of moment.
This Installation marked a rare and distinguished milestone:
WBro Graham “Gray” Stevens became the reigning Worshipful Master of two lodges simultaneously—Deva Lodge and University Lodge of Chester.
A dual honour of this kind isn’t just unusual; it’s a testament to the esteem in which Gray is held across the Province.
A Ceremony Delivered to Perfection
From the moment the Lodge was opened, it was clear that the evening would be special. Every officer on the team brought their very best, resulting in a ceremony executed with remarkable smoothness and precision. But even among such excellence, one performance shone especially brightly.
Bro Mitch, as Installing Master, delivered a truly exemplary performance.
His poise, confidence, and clear dedication to getting every detail right elevated the entire ceremony. Many brethren commented afterward that it was one of the most polished and heartfelt Installations the Lodge had seen in years.
A Dispensation Fit for the Moment
To allow the ceremony to proceed—given the rare nature of a brother taking the Chair of two lodges concurrently—a formal Dispensation from UGLE was required. This was duly authorised by none other than the MW The Grand Master, HRH The Duke of Kent, adding even greater significance to an already special occasion.
The granting of the Dispensation underscored not only the importance of the moment but also the confidence placed in Gray as a leader within the Craft.
Celebration, Camaraderie, and Craftsmanship
The festive board that followed was full of warmth, good humour, and heartfelt congratulations. It was one of those evenings where everything simply came together—strong ritual, genuine friendship, and deep appreciation for the Craft.
Congratulations All Around
To Gray, for achieving the rare honour of leading two lodges simultaneously—and doing so with humility, capability, and Masonic spirit.
To Mitch, for delivering a performance as Installing Master that will be spoken of for many years.
And to all brethren involved, whose teamwork and dedication made the night truly memorable.
Well done, Gray and Mitch, on a fabulous Installation and a milestone moment in ULoC history!
