On the morning of 25th February 2023 University Lodge of Chester celebrated the Centenary of Lodge No.4477 held at Freemasons' Hall, Cheshire View, Christleton, Chester by dispensation. Present to officiate over the proceedings was the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master for the Province of Cheshire David Dyson. He was accompanied by the Deputy Provincial Grand Master HHJ Simon Medland, four Assistant Provincial Grand Masters and a retinue of Grand and Provincial Officers.
The Worshipful Master of the University Lodge of Chester WBro Dr Andrew Fraser warmly welcomed RWPGM David Dyson to the meeting which was attended by nearly 100 Masons from all over the Province of Cheshire and neighbouring Provinces.
The RWPGM took the Chair and set the scene by explaining that Temple Lodge No.4477 was consecrated on 12th February 1923, with the name of the Lodge changing in 2011 to University Lodge of Chester, he went on to describe some of the world and national events in 1923. An Oration from the Provincial Grand Chaplain, The Revd Christopher Jones was followed by a precis of the history of Temple Lodge and University Lodge of Chester given by the Lodge Secretary Paul Rogerson.
The Worshipful Master resumed the Chair and graciously received the Centenary Warrant from the RW PGM. Members of ULoC were then requested to display their Centenary Jewels. The Worshipful Master then presented RW PGM David Dyson with a cheque for £1044.77 in the name of Province of Cheshire - 2027 MCF Festival Appeal. Festival Chairman WBro Andy Bailey APGM was on hand to present to the Lodge a Certificate for achieving 50% of the amount towards Patronage of the Festival.
Following the formal celebrations the Brethren relished a superb 4-course luncheon at the Festive Board, which was enjoyed with much merriment and laughter as both old and new friends exchanged conversations.
